10th Edition
The Science Film Festival in Myanmar celebrated its 10th Edition in 2021 from 6th of November to 5th of December amidst challenging circumstances. Organized by Goethe-Institut Myanmar, the festival was held in close cooperation with its longstanding partners; the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Yangon, the National Council of YMCAs of Myanmar and with the support of SEAMEO STEM-ED, Miracle Education Center, DigTech ASEAN, Brainworks-Total Group of Schools, Academy Language Center and the active participation of science education institutions, child development centers as well as the enthusiasm of educators and volunteers who facilitated the screenings and activities.

The opening of the festival was held virtually on the 6th November 2021. In addition to the online screenings via registration, the SFF Team came up with an idea to conduct the virtual tour via Zoom
around the country with the inspiration from in-person travelling to schools in the previous years. The tour was started on the 7th November until 4th December with the support of educators around
the country. Public screenings were also held on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of December. During the festival period, a total selection of 21 films were screened during virtual tour and public screenings.

As the Science Film Festival in Myanmar celebrated its decade long journey,a song was produced in honour of the 10th Anniversary and the team organized a dance challenge for the children under 10 years of age. Science related experiment video competitions were also conducted for different age groups addressing health related issues and the winners’ announcement was made at the virtual closing ceremony on the evening of 5th December and afterwards prizes were delivered to the winners’ doorsteps. In fact, 2021 was a challenging year for Myanmar; a year full of hardships and sorrows. Nevertheless, despite the uncertainties and difficulties, the Science Film Festival in Myanmar could celebrate its 10th Edition of the festival with nearly 1 000 participants.
