They are many. They are everywhere. And they are not killers. Viruses. These artists of survival are the engine of evolution – including that of humans. The film dives into the depths of the virosphere: scientists explore the role of viruses in the oceans, in the origins of life, in the human body. With viruses even severe bacterial infections can be cured. But they can also become dangerous – such as in the case of AIDS, Ebola or Covid-19, if nature and biodiversity are being destroyed. The film also shows how so-called “one-health” concepts try to keep the balance between humans and the world of viruses.
