Goethe Institut Stockholm
The Goethe-Institut e.V. is a registered, non-profit association under German private law that promotes German language and culture worldwide. The objective of the Association is to further knowledge of the German language, foster international cultural cooperation, and convey a comprehensive picture of Germany by providing information on cultural, social and political life in Germany.
Role in the project:
In recent years, GI Sweden has expanded its focus beyond German as a foreign language. GI Sweden has become increasingly involved in issues around HLT provision. Home language teachers for German contact the Swedish branch of Goethe-Institut to ask for support, advice on materials and general guidance. Additionally, GI Sweden addresses with all matters of language teaching and learning from a new diversity-orientated perspective. Thus, many students in Sweden no longer follow the traditional language sequence (Swedish, English, German) but already bring different home languages into language learning.
Besides a high level of experience in the field, GI Sweden also manages and organises the whole project and is responsible for the website development. Sabine Brachmann-Bosse

stichting Taal naar Keuze
TnK offers schools hybrid language education in languages that students choose themselves, including the home languages of multilingual students. The foundation works with qualified and diversely trained language experts, who collaborate in teams to develop educational content. (Language) teachers affiliated with a school can also contribute to TnK education. TnK operates in a hybrid way, i.e. education and guidance both at school and online, across schools.
Role in the project:
From 2017-2019, the pilot TnK was implemented, in partnership with the Municipality of Amsterdam and the Board of Esprit schools. Around 450 students took the opportunity to learn a language in addition to the languages offered at school. About half chose their home language other than Dutch or English, and the other half another foreign language.
During the pilot, it became evident that many languages of refugees, economic migrants, and students from former colonies were not covered by the list of available languages.
Therefore, TnK brings valuable experience in HL teacher programs and materials and will be responsible for evaluating the pilot implementation as well as working on a roadmap for teachers and schools.
