Testimonials and other quotes

Here you can read how our partners experienced the work during the project through direct quotes.

Heritage language education doesn’t happen in isolation. It lives between schools, families, communities, and on a macro level society and municipalities. It's a live ecosystem!
Project team
It was a wonderful and enriching experience.
Project team
[There were] so many lessons learnt. On the organization of Heritage Language Education throughout Europe. On the meaning of Heritage Language Education for pupils, teachers and families. On a more participatory methodology for the professional development and empowerment of educators (through guidance, reflection and exchange meetings). On the creation of safe and inclusive spaces in the framework of international partnerships. On the importance of peer-work also within larger consortia.
Aliki Tzatha, ELIX
The project brought together a very diverse consortium of partners representing different local and institutional contexts. The outcomes reflect this diversity (both academically informed and grounded in community work), but also a very substantive collaboration (peer exchange, meaningful and sincere exchanges in the plenary, functioning working groups, building of respect and supportive relationships, cultivation of a safe space), and that is why an overarching outcome, embedded in all project outputs, events and instances, is powerful -multimodal, multiverse, but also connected and rooted- advocacy for Heritage Language Education.
Aliki Tzatha, ELIX
More work than anticipated. But it was all worth it in the end.
Project team
All the outcomes (pilot plan, handbook etc) [are a big success]. [As well as] the new networks created between the participating countries.
Project team
It would be helpful for a project to be not too ambitious. It is a challenge but also a gift to work transnationally.
Project team
The biggest successes are the Pilot Model accompanied by the Handbook that provide a usable and replicable foundation for future in-service training and transnational collaboration. The teachers involved in the project have been able to develop their own understanding of their practice and the partner organisations have gained valuable insights through their collaboration.

Not only your language counts but your voice matters. Speaking with people and trusting them is a skill we have to build over time and with clear and open communication. The way we talk to each other is important.
Elisabeth C. Schmidt, Goethe-Institut Sweden
Our biggest successes were to bring teachers together (study visits), our outcomes, the events we hosted, the teachers we gave a platform and a voice (in panels, interviews etc)

[An] international collaboration is a learning curve, but always worth it!
Project team
[It was great] meeting all the project partners who are so passionate about HLE!
Project team
The project’s biggest successes include the successful cross-country pilot implementation of heritage language education models. It demonstrated that hybrid and flexible delivery formats are effective and scalable, especially for smaller language groups. Strong collaboration among teachers across countries and languages was established, and key strategic outputs, such as the Handbook and Roadmap, provide concrete guidance for future implementation. The project also increased awareness and engagement among schools, educators, and policymakers, laying the groundwork for continued uptake and expansion.
