João Paulo Lima Barreto belongs to the Yepamahsã (Tukano) people. He has a degree in philosophy as well as a master's degree and a doctorate in social anthropology from the Federal University of Amazonas. He is the founder of the Bahserikowi Indigenous Medicine Centre and of Biatüwi, the first indigenous grocery shop in the city of Manaus in the state of Amazonas, as well as a participant in the ‘Cosmoperceptions of the Forest’ project (Goethe-Institut Rio de Janeiro).
