Matthias Nawrat, born in Opole, Poland, in 1979, emigrated to Bamberg with his family at the age of ten. He received the Adelbert von Chamisso Prize for his debut novel„Wir zwei allein" (Just the Two of Us, 2012); „Unternehmer" (Entrepreneur, 2014), nominated for the German Book Prize, was awarded the Kelag Prize and the Bayern 2 Wortspiele Prize, while „Die vielen Tode unseres Opas Jurek" (The Many Deaths of Our Grandfather Jurek, 2015) received the Bremen Literature Prize and the Alfred Döblin Medal. „Der traurige Gast" (The Sad Guest, 2019) was nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize, among others. In 2020, Matthias Nawrat received the European Union Prize for Literature. „Reise nach Maine" (2021) is his fifth novel. His most recent publications are the poetry collection „Gebete für meine Vorfahren" (2022) and the European travel diary „Gebete für meine Vorfahren" (2024).
