The German Book Club, organized by the Goethe-Institut New York and the Austrian Cultural Forum, reads contemporary works of German literature. If you'd like to join a discussion with others who are interested in German literature, then this is the place for you. The books we read are, as a rule, available only in German. A good reading knowledge of German is, therefore, necessary. For the discussion, however, you needn't be fluent in German or a native speaker.

We especially welcome Americans who wish to maintain and improve their German language skills. Give it a try, it will be fun!

The Book Club meets once a month at 6:00pm at the Goethe-Institut New York, 72 Spring Street, 11th Floor, in SoHo. Exact dates will be announced well ahead of time.

The Book Club is free, but participants must purchase the individual titles themselves. If available, we have listed the paperback editions of Book Club titles below. As there is no German bookstore in New York, we've put together some recommendations:
