Further reading on German film

Here we have put together a selection of publications on German cinema. For the most part the list is dedicated to books covering all aspects of German cinema, complemented by a selection of titles on international film with German cinema appropriately spotlighted. The titles include encyclopedias and film histories, descriptions of specific eras of German film history (including the cinema of the GDR), and publications about and by individuals from the world of German cinema: directors, filmmakers, actors, cinematographers and producers. There are also books on film theory and criticism, as well as literature on specific genres such as documentaries and children's films. A certain number of foreign-language publications on German cinema are also included, primarily in English. Related areas such as video art or media research are not included.

Some books are still in print, while others are available in libraries.
