Juha Siltanen studied at the Theatre Academy of Finland, graduating in dramaturgy in 1983. He then worked as a dramatist, freelance director and translator. He has written several plays that have been performed across Finland (e.g., Foxtrot, Strip-tease, Piaf, Piaf) as well as radio plays and TV screenplays. Siltanen has also translated over 40 plays into Finnish, including works by Edward Albee, William Shakespeare and Samuel Beckett. He has been awarded a number of Finnish and international prizes, including the 1986 Prix Italia, the 1992 Helsinki City Culture Award and the 1996 Koura prize.
