Gintersdorfer/Klaßen have been developing projects that place the performers’ life strategies and forms of expression at their core. The German- Ivorian team works with international guests and shows its works nationally and internationally: examples include the Logobi Series 1-6 (Tanzplattform Germany 2010), La nouvelle pensée noire (Spielart Festival 2013, performances in Kigali, Rwanda, Impulse Festival 2015, Festival Politik im freien Theater (politics in independent theatre) 2014), Der Internationale Strafgerichtshof (tours to the Netherlands, Belgium, Burkina Faso, Ghana). Gintersdorfer/Klaßen frequently collaborate with Kampnagel in Hamburg, Forum Freies Theater Dusseldorf, HAU Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin, Pumpenhaus Münster, Theater Bremen and Koninklijke Vlaamse Schouwburg in Brussels. In 2009 and 2010 Gintersdorfer/Klaßen hosted their own festivals in the Ivory Coast.

The Gintersdorfer/Klaßen duo tore down borders of dance theatre with performative trans-continental lines of sight between Europe and Africa, which cross far more than just culture and do far more than just address the dance world. The director Monika Gintersdorfer, who will receive the Caroline Neuber Prize of the City of Leipzig in March 2016, and the visual artist Knut Klaßen work discursively with the Ivorian/German ensemble with a humour that is as clever as it is subversive; they undermine stereotypes and pose translation questions. In Bremen, Gintersdorfer/Klaßen were recently a part of the opera project Les Robots ne connaissent pas le Blues oder Die Entführung aus dem Serail; to call this work unusual would be a shameless understatement.

With the director of the Bremen Music Theatre at the time, Benedikt von Peter, the General Music Director Marcus Poschner and Ted Gaier of the Goldene Zitronen, they deconstructed Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail so sensually and fundamentally that one could lose the desire to see the classic opera ever again. The gain in insight was remarkable:
we learned what it sounds like when opera singers don't sing their arias to orchestra accompaniment, but rather to modern electronic beats, how contemporary dance gets along with opera scenes and how African pop and opera voices meld together. This once again demonstrated the productive power of the Gintersdorfer/Klaßen principle.
