Teaching qualifications in the field of German as a Second Language

Teacher. Photo: Nicole Angstenberger © Goethe-Institut Specialist, professionally trained teaching staff are required for successful lessons in German as a Second Language. Therefore the Goethe-Institut has dedicated itself for many years to further teacher training for German as a Second Language.

It trains teaching staff for adult education – for the integration courses – and for working with nursery and school children. The Goethe-Institut not only offers the qualification for teaching staff for the integration courses mentioned above as well as a range of further education opportunities, but it has also been commissioned by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) to establish the specialist principles for training.

Teaching staff and primary school teachers continue to come across children whose German language skills must be improved. It is these people that the Goethe-Institut wants to provide with the necessary fundamental knowledge for second language acquisition and language promotion through training courses as correspondence courses. This will make the daily (language) work in the nursery and in the primary school easier.
