Range of Services: Support and Funding for the Visual Arts

German art is highly regarded throughout the world. Through its varied programme of activities the Goethe-Institut helps people all over the globe to come into contact and engage with art from Germany. The focus is on contemporary art.

  • In co-operation with local partner organisations, we initiate and support group and solo exhibitions in all the various branches of the visual arts: painting, sculpture, the graphic arts, architecture, photography, media art, design and fashion.
  • We produce touring exhibitions that document cultural themes or recent historical developments. We also place touring exhibitions produced by the Institute for Foreign Relations (ifa) in Stuttgart with cultural institutes abroad.
  • We organize and support conferences and panel discussions focusing on important trends in contemporary German art, as well as running workshops, artist-in-residence programmes and artist's talks with artists from Germany.
  • Together with the editorial staff of the Goethe-Institut's website we use our website to present a wide range of information about the arts scene in Germany, providing exhibition write-ups, articles on art-related themes and an annotated links list.
