Leipzig Book Fair: 14.-17.03.2013

160 German-speaking authors were out and about in 2012 at the invitation of the Goethe-Institut. They presented their works in more than 50 countries at readings, festivals and book fairs, discussed current literary affairs or took new inspiration as resident authors. 262 German books from the genres of fiction, reference, children’s and young people’s literature were translated into a total of 39 languages last year with support from the Goethe-Institut.

The Leipzig Book Fair provides a prominent platform from which to present aspects of our literary work overseas and the conditions under which this work is carried out. For instance publisher Michael Krüger, Goethe-Institut president Klaus-Dieter Lehmann and Russian literature experts Maria Zorkaja and Alexei Mokrousov are discussing the circumstances surrounding German literature in Russia. In other panels they are talking about the “Goethe-Guerilla”, the comic scenes in Europe and the Lebanon, authors’ experiences with Goethe-Institut programmes overseas, the role of the translator and the independent identity a work takes on once it has been translated. You will come across interesting guests, including authors Thomas Brussig and Benjamin Stein.

The TRADUKI network takes a look at literature and culture from Southern Europe and the German-speaking countries. As a partner of this network, the Goethe-Institut would like to extend a heartfelt invitation to more than 25 TRADUKI events at the Leipzig Book Fair.
