|Institution||Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity|
|Themes||ethnicity, religion, history and development of diversity, inter-ethnic, inter-religious encounters|
|Orientation||multi-disciplinary, empirical basic research|
The institute researches diversity in historical and modern societies, with particular focus on ethnic and religious processes. Its research is focused not only on migration-related contexts (in so-called countries of origin, transit and destination), but also on societies characterised by different types of diversity, such as South Africa, the Balkans, India and Southeast Asia. The main focus of the institute's work is on basic research, but also extends to policy consultation in selected cases.
