This test provides you with a rough assessment of your existing level of German. During the test, you will work through various tasks in which your reading comprehension will be tested and your grammar and vocabulary skills will be assessed.

If you wish to enrol in a German course at the Goethe-Institut, this test is not sufficient. In this case, please take the online placement test.

Placement test

The placement test allows us to assess what knowledge you already have, set a learning goal together with you, and choose a suitable course for you.

After submitting the online test, you will be sent the result and can then enrol in an appropriate course.

Minimum age for the test: 16

  • individual placement in the appropriate course level
  • precise result, e.g. A1.2, B2.1
  • costs of placement test reimbursed if you book a course
