Gule is happy. The Kurd living in Stuttgart is celebrating with her daughter Liya and her sons Jan and Alan, with relatives and friends. To the surprise of all, the woman announces that, after the fall of Saddam Hussein, she wants to return to her Kurdish homeland. The reaction of her adult children is not so enthusiastic, they argue but want to stay in Germany. When they hear about the death of her mother, Jan is already in Dohuk, receives her written will and hides a few pages – but not the last will of the dead mother. She wants to be buried in her village 600 km away next to her husband. Uncle Ferhad is very opposed to it. His extended family rallies his opinion.

HOUSE WITHOUT ROOF is a thrilling road movie, in which past and future, East and West, peace and war collide and which brings sometimes tears sometimes laughter out of the audience.
