Welcome to SCHLiNGEL – the international film festival for children, young people and the young at heart! Since its founding in 1996 in Chemnitz, Germany, SCHLiNGEL has delighted viewers with extraordinary films that tell stories full of imagination, courage, and emotion. Each year, the festival showcases the most exciting new productions for young people—carefully selected and honored by international juries such as FIPRESCI.
SCHLiNGEL isn’t just at home in Germany—it travels the world! From New Delhi to Montreal, Cairo to Tashkent, the festival brings powerful stories to young audiences everywhere.
After a successful debut in 2024, SCHLiNGEL returns to Abu Dhabi in 2025! From October 23 to 25, the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation will transform into a cinema bursting with adventure, color, and emotion. Audiences can enjoy award-winning German films for children and youth, along with a lovingly curated short film program—organized by the Goethe-Institut Gulf Region in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation.
