About the project
Under the Mango Tree
Under the Mango Tree – Talks from Vila Sul Residency is the official podcast of the Vila Sul International Artistic Residency at the Goethe-Institut Salvador-Bahia. Recorded in English, the podcast brings together artists from different countries and continents who come to Salvador to develop projects connected to the Global South, engaging directly with the city’s cultural, social, and political context.
Each episode opens up space for in-depth conversations about creative processes, artistic trajectories, and research emerging during the residency period. The talks are moderated by the Bahian actor and screenwriter Aldri Anunciação, guiding thoughtful and engaging dialogues between artists and audiences. More than interviews, these encounters unfold as horizontal exchanges where experiences, references, and perspectives intertwine.
In 2026, the series revolves around the theme “Fabrics of Narratives”, exploring how stories are woven through displacement, memory, territory, and contemporary artistic practices. The podcast offers a situated and attentive listening experience, connecting diverse voices and expanding discussions on art and society from a Global South perspective.
Inspired by the mango tree as a space of gathering, shade, and exchange, Under the Mango Tree invites listeners to engage with conversations that cross borders and shape new ways of thinking, narrating, and creating in today’s world.
