The Goethe-Institut Kamerun is dedicating a special cinema week to the theme “Healing the wounds – Blessures et guérison”. It is a seven film-series, comprising films which will be screened for the first time in Cameroon. The internationally renowned filmmakers are coming from 5 countries (South Africa, Germany, Cameroon, France, and Senegal). The films are more than just portraits. The filmmakers offer fine studies of societies in quest of new grounds at the end of major wars (World War 1 - Frantz, World War 2 - Fritz Bauer, un héros allemand ), warlike times (Apartheid - Zulu love letter, Winnie) or societies facing structural conflicts (institutional racism- In the fade, social discrimination - Badiaga, practice of Female Genital Mutilation- Moolaadé). The main characters (mostly women) might pursue their own personal goals but they are more importantly catalysts in change processes within their badly shaken and even traumatized societies.
The screenings will take place from 08 to 12 May 2018 in Sita Bella (Ministry of Communication) and 12 May 2018, 7 pm at Institut Français de Yaoundé.
