Considering German Colonial History in Africa

“The Burden of Memory: Considering German Colonial History in Africa” is a cultural week that will bring together up to 35 multidisciplinary cultural productions and innovative formats of exchange and collaboration between invited artists and the public. The focus of the cultural week lies on productions from African countries that experienced German colonisation: Burundi, Cameroon, Namibia, Rwanda, Tanzania and Togo. Discovering and highlighting these boundary-pushing works, is what will make this Cultural week one of its kind. Theatre plays, concerts, performances, panel debates, film screenings, exhibitions, installations, discussions and workshops within school environments, etc. are some of the activities that will be held throughout the week. With this platform, African artists take a look at the German colonial experience and open a window of reflection on the future. This cultural week is curated by Princess Marilyn Douala Manga Bell from Cameroon, Rose Jepkorir Kiptum from Kenya and Nontobeko Ntombela from South Africa.
