Use of artificial intelligence (AI) in exam preparation
Advanced training seminar
Duration: 3 sessions of 3 teaching units (TU) each
- Introduction to the use of AI tools and their potential in language teaching
- Promoting reading and writing skills through AI
- Promoting speaking and listening skills
1st session
In the first session (3 teaching units), participants receive a basic introduction to the use of AI tools and their potential in language teaching. After an engaging introduction to exchange experiences, they learn about the most important AI tools and how they can be used in language teaching. One focus is on learning about prompt engineering: participants practise how to formulate precise instructions in order to generate high-quality exercise material. In practical exercises, they experiment with different prompt strategies and reflect on their effectiveness. Particular attention is paid to quality control of AI-generated materials and the critical approach to the results.
2nd session
The second session (3 teaching units) focuses on improving reading and writing skills using AI. Participants learn how to use AI to create differentiated reading texts and corresponding exercises for different levels. They develop strategies for adapting texts and creating reading comprehension exercises. In the area of writing, they explore how AI can support writing skills: from developing motivating writing impulses to help with phrasing and individualized feedback. In small groups, they create exercise sequels that specifically prepare students for the requirements of the written exam sections. In the process, they also learn how to use AI for correcting texts and revision phases.
3rd session
The third session (3 teaching units) focuses on improving speaking and listening skills. Participants first explore the possibilities of AI for listening comprehension: they learn how to generate listening texts at the appropriate level and prepare them for teaching purposes. Particular attention is paid to the authentic design of the listening texts and the development of targeted listening comprehension tasks. In the area of speaking, they try out the use of AI chatbots for interactive dialogue exercises and develop scenarios for preparing for the oral exam. Strategies for promoting fluency and simulating various conversation situations are also developed.
