We have warmly invited you to the opening of the exhibition “Brecht in Pictures.” The exhibition has presented a carefully curated selection of photographs of Bertolt Brecht as well as impressive stage scenes from his plays.

The images have come from the Bertolt Brecht Archive at the Akademie der Künste, Berlin, and have included, among others, photographs of Brecht with Helene Weigel, his wife and the artistic director of the Berliner Ensemble, rehearsal photos from The Caucasian Chalk Circle, and other rare visual documents.

Following the exhibition opening, a discussion has taken place under the title:

“Beyond the Stage: A Critical Analysis of Emotion and Meaning in Brecht’s Masterpieces – Cultural, Humanitarian, and Political Connections in Ethiopian Theatre.”

We have been pleased to welcome Dr. Paulos Aemero as our speaker. He has been a researcher in African Studies focusing on art, media, and culture, as well as an author, performer, and artistic consultant.

In addition, Director Manyazewal Endeshaw has shared insights into his personal artistic engagement with Brecht’s work and has explained what has inspired him about Brecht’s theatrical vision.
The discussion has been moderated by Manyazewal Getachew, PR Officer of the Addis Ababa Theater Houses Enterprise.
