"On the Grind"

As part of a Franco‑German collaboration, and with the aim of supporting the rise of alternative culture/arts in Ethiopia, the 3rd edition of the ON THE GRIND festival will be held between February and June 2021, in different places in Addis Ababa.
 
The festival this Saturday, 6 February featuring the first two Ethiopian projects selected from the ON THE GRIND call for applications launched a few weeks ago:
 
– Chewata Awaqi: a collective of gamers, they will make a series of games available to the public as well as a selection of virtual reality / XR content.
 
– Mekbib Tadesse: photographer with extraordinary sensitivity, he will present a “street art” interpretation of portraits of elderly people taken during the COVID crisis.
 
In addition to these two artists, ON THE GRIND also brings in Morena Leraba, a pioneer of new Lesotho sound, a shepherd turned rapper whose traditional Famo-inspired vocals are weaved with electronic music, dub and echoes of hip hop, to create a psychedelic and entrancing sound that is still evolving. For the first time in Ethiopia!
