As part of Hub of Africa Fashion Week (HAFW) the Goethe-Institut Äthiopien will host a round table discussion on January 27, followed by an opening of photo exhibition showcasing the works of designers who are part of HAFW Mentorship Program. The exhibition will be open to public until February 10.
Hub of Africa Fashion Week (HAFW) Mentorship Program seeks to connect emerging designers, graduates of fashion design schools, and talents with fashion design experts to facilitate knowledge transfer, develop future leaders, and provide every opportunity for start-up designers to have a successful and rewarding career in the fashion industry.
HAFW with its partner Fashion Africa 254 (FA254) supported by Goethe-Institut Äthiopien, conducted a 6 month workshop to tie the Designers Mentorship Program into a strong international context. FA254 mentors Waridi Schrobsdorff and Kelly Konings focused on working towards sustainability efforts in the fashion industry encouraging ethical, equitable, inclusive and environmentally responsible practices to enrich and contribute for a sustainable African and global community.
After an open call for HAFW mentorship program in January 2021, the final 10 designers were connected with their respective mentors for a 10 months mentorship and will showcase 8 capsule collections at HAFW 2022.
The fashion presentation will officially commence on January 26th at the Hyatt Regency with a run way show followed by a round table discussion and photo exhibition opening at Goethe-Institut Äthiopien on January 27, a program honoring designer Genet Kebede, A 30 Year retrospective presentation will be hosted at the Hyatt on January 29, HAFW will be concluded with a pop-up market open to public at the Hyatt Regency on January 29 and 30.
