More than two decades after her ground breaking documentary on San Francisco's trans pioneers, director Monika Treut returns to California to reconnect with its protagonists, among them Sandy Stone, Susan Stryker, Stafford and Max Wolf Valerio. Priced out of a city that once was their haven, most now live elsewhere, yet their energy, and that of allies like sex activist Annie Sprinkle, remains undimmed. Treut asks how these civil rights pioneers have fared and how they confront a resurgent conservative politics threatening hard won rights, revisiting a once utopian era with humour and resilience.
