Namita Khare did her Masters in German Studies with specialization in Translation from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Later she attended various courses on offer at the Faculty of Translation Studies, Linguistics and Cultural Studies, Germersheim. She has been involved in the teaching of German language, history and culture at Max Mueller Bhavan, Delhi, University of Delhi and Jawaharlal Nehru University. As a part of a project between University of Delhi and Freie Universität, Berlin she has translated shorter narratives of Hindi writers in German.

She is the co-translator of Herta Müller’s Der Mensch ist ein groβer Fasan auf der Welt (Kaanch ke Aansoo) and Atemschaukel (Bhookh ka Vyakaran). She is also involved in a translation project between Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and Bergische Universität, Wuppertal.
