Step into the Conservator’s Studio this week at our Open Lab Session—a rare chance to witness the first-ever treatment of two Nigerian modernist paintings, which have been untreated to date.
In partnership with the National Gallery of Art (Nigeria) and Goethe-Institut, Julia Nagle (senior conservation specialist), her colleague, Olympia Diamond, and Yetunde Odediran (MOWAA’s resident conservator), will guide visitors through the first known conservation treatment of two significant 20th-century works in the national collection.

Learn how works are vetted for treatment, the practicalities of undertaking art conservation in Nigeria, and clues of the artist’s hand and intent embedded in works themselves. Whether you’re a gallerist, art enthusiast or simply curious, this session invites you to step into the conservator’s shoes and explore the intersection of art, science, and history.

This event is free and open to all.
