Hammoudi works as a doctor in Paris. To renew his passport, he travels to his home country Syria. There he is refused permission to leave. Amal's acting career in Damascus has just begun. But then the war breaks out. Both narrative strands about Hammoudi and Amal are told in parallel. Both are convinced of the revolution and are committed to it. And yet they end up like thousands of other refugees on boats to Europe.
