a book launch and conversation on community engagement and public art

The yearlong project "Urbanities - art and public space in Pakistan," for which the Goethe-Institut Pakistan collaborated with LBF, Vasl artists' Association, Marvi Mazhar & Associates, and other partners in 2016, was realized as a critical exploration of the urban and its possibilities by way of individual artistic work and research approaches. A lively exchange of discourse and practice between Germany and Pakistan aimed to enable a broad audience to engage with contemporary art. All three leading artistic positions found themselves tackling questions of community engagement and collective experience which still have an impact until today.

The newly printed publication both documents, evaluates, and advances the initial positions. The conversation will reference the project, present the publication, and continue the exchange with old and new guests and partners.
