The Goethe-Zertifikat A2: Fit in Deutsch is a German exam for young people aged 12 to 16. The exam confirms basic language skills at level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The Exam sections

The Goethe-Zertifikat A2: Fit in Deutsch consists of the sections listening, reading, writing and speaking (oral pair exam). The exam is conducted and graded uniformly worldwide.

  • Listening

    Duration: 30 minutes

    You listen to everyday conversations, radio announcements and interviews, news on the phone and public announcements and work on tasks related to these.

  • Reading

    Duration: 30 minutes

    You read texts such as short newspaper articles, e-mails, ads and public information boards and work on related tasks.

  • Writing

    Duration: 30 minutes

    You write messages that relate to your immediate living environment.

  • Speaking

    Duration: 15 minutes

    You ask questions and answer them about yourself, you talk about your own life and you plan and agree on something with the person you are talking to.

By passing the exam, you demonstrate that you ...

  • can understand and use sentences and frequently used expressions in everyday situations;

  • can communicate in simple, routine situations involving the exchange of information on familiar and common topics;

  • can use simple language to describe your own background and education, immediate environment and things related to immediate needs.

Requirements

The Goethe-Zertifikat A2: Fit in Deutsch is a German exam for young people aged 12 to 16.
The Goethe-Institut exams are generally open to anyone and can be taken regardless of age or nationality.

  • The recommended age for the Goethe-Zertifikat A2: Fit in Deutsch is 12 years and older.

  • The Goethe-Zertifikat A2: Fit in Deutsch requires language skills at the second competence level (A2) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

  • Depending on your previous knowledge and learning requirements, you will need between 200 and 350 lessons of 45 minutes each to achieve this level.
