This two-semester online course is designed for learners interested in acquiring proficiency in reading German texts. The course provides an intensive study of basic German grammar, syntax and translation practices and introduces you to expository prose, with the emphasis on reading and translation.
The objective of the course is to bring you to an intermediate reading level, enabling you to read scholarly articles in German with the aid of a dictionary and a grammar resource. Upon successful completion, you will be able to understand main arguments and their development within a specific context. No prior knowledge of German is required.
While the course does not teach conversational German, however, the basic elements of pronunciation and some conversation skills are included since they support the understanding of the written material.
The course is conducted in English.
