The mission of the Portuguese Directorate-General for Books, Archives and Libraries (DGLAB) is to coordinate the national archives system and implement an integrated policy for non-school books, libraries and reading. The DGLAB is responsible for implementing a national archives policy, promoting the creation, publishing and reading of Portuguese literature, as well as stimulating public reading, namely by consolidating and expanding the national network of public libraries.
The Old Town Library
The Old Town Library, established by the Borough of Old Town Bratislava, operates as a public library with five branches. Each branch is unique in its book collection, events and workshops for children, adults and seniors, local community, as well as in its spatial possibilities and overall appearance. The library is a vibrant and dynamic organisation that is constantly evolving and adapting to the needs of its members and visitors. Not only is the library a place housing popular titles and traditional library services, but it is also a safe space offering inspiration, entertainment, education, experimentation and the opportunities to meet current trending topics and new people.
State Scientific Library in Banská Bystrica
State Scientific Library in Banská Bystrica, a library open to the public, is a cultural, informational, and educational centre focusing on bibliographic, scientific, editorial and publishing activities. Our library offers free access to information and supports lifelong education. The library’s assets contain more than 1,700,000 library units, including 600,000 books and other media, such as periodicals, music, legislative documents, technical standards and patents, maps, and many more. The library’s specialised collections focus on construction, architecture, tourism, the Slovak National Uprising and the National Movement.
The State Research Library in Košice
The State Research Library in Košice has been one of the leading universal libraries of Slovakia since 1947. It is open to the general public but is of great importance to students and their instructors in particular. Its mission is to provide free access to information and support the local community in reaching their full potential through educational and cultural events. The library’s collection consists of approximately 1,823,000 items. Furthermore, the library acts as a deposit library in Slovakia, and in addition to its universal collection, it houses a rare and old book collection, the American Centre, and the German Library Goethe-Institute.
