Participatory learning opens up new opportunities for motivation and authentic communication, especially in GfL-classes. In this workshop, participants reflect on why participation is particularly important for language learning and classify their own practice using the level model of participation. Through the simulation of selected methods, they experience how learners can be actively involved in topic selection and lesson design. The focus is on how teachers can get learners more involved, promote their self-efficacy, and encourage language production. Special emphasis is placed on the changing role of the teacher as a facilitator who enables participation and strengthens intrinsic motivation. The workshop concludes with concrete ideas that can be tried out directly in GfL-classes.
