Foodsharing Basel is a local initiative against food waste, where volunteers rescue surplus products from stores and distribute them to people in need or via community sharing points (“Fairteiler”). The community has been active since 2013 and has already saved over 250,000 kg of food.

Sibylle from Foodsharing Basel gives us a concrete look at what rescuing food means: she explains how a pickup at a bakery or supermarket works, how the food is sorted and distributed in Fairteiler, and how anyone can become part of the initiative through the platform. She also provides insight into the collaboration with around 50 businesses, community meetings, and projects like “Gärngschee,” where food is regularly passed on to those in need.
