Language Policy at the Local Level

Lunchtalk|How Municipalities and Schools can collaborate to promote (foreign) Languages

  • Online Online

  • Language English

Language policy at the local level can make a real difference in how (foreign) languages are supported in everyday school life. Yet cooperation between municipalities and schools is often the decisive factor: it shapes shared goals, roles, and practical implementation for effective language promotion.

Join us for a keynote followed by a panel discussion, where experts will explore how municipalities and schools can collaborate to strengthen language learning, coordinate measures across institutions, and create conditions that empower both teachers and learners.

Programme:

Short keynote given by Jonas Granfeldt

Panel discussion with:
  • Jonas Granfeldt (Sweden); Professor of Applied French Linguistics at Lund University; expertise in language acquisition, multilingualism, and language teaching
  • Päivi Mäkinen (Finland); German teacher at a primary school in Hyvinkää; winner of the 2025 Ulla Aue Prize
  • Sascha Daniel Stalter (Denmark); Associate Professor and Goethe-certified teacher at IBC Fredericia
