Beate Tröger lives in Frankfurt am Main, where she works as a freelance literary critic. She writes reviews for Deutschlandfunk, SWR and WDR, as well as for the FAZ and der Freitag, and contributes literary features. She is a member of the SWR Bestenliste jury. In 2025, she received the Alfred Kerr Prize for Literary Criticism, and in 2026 she was the Max Kade Visiting Professor for Literary Criticism in St. Louis.
