Ghost Particle

University and General Public

It’s one of the biggest unsolved mysteries of the universe and for many scientists, neutrinos may be the storytellers to resolve the matter. What happened immediately after the big bang? How did we and everything we see throughout the cosmos come to be? "Ghost Particle" is a science documentary following international efforts to understand the origin of the universe by studying its smallest parts with some of the world’s largest experiments. Neutrinos are invisible, nearly massless particles that pass through matter like ghosts and are impossible to see. They act in peculiar quantum ways and their identity-changing behavior may hold the key to unlock clues to questions like how matter remained after the big bang, which is now us and everything we see in the cosmos. Based at CERN, the film offers an inside view to how some of the world’s best minds set out to do the seemingly impossible: design a machine to detect the undetectable.
