5th Edition
The Science Film Festival in India celebrated its 5th edition in 2021. Organised by the Goethe-Institut, the festival offered a total of 30 films from 7 countries to be screened during the festival period from 01 October to 20 December in India.

Last year, the festival was accompanied by a SFFQuiz 2021, a specially designed quiz based on the science films showcased. The quiz was conducted in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka in partnership with Quizcraft Global Knowledge Solutions, reaching over 7000 students in the South Asia region. The grand finale of the quiz was held online among top 8 national participants from the region and Vinay Verma from India took home not only the title of ‘International Champion’ but also a NexStar Telescope, an iPad, Goethe-Institut merchandise and a complimentary German language course.

The Science Film Festival team across cities organized several workshops for students and teachers. In addition, our trained science educators devised a special workshop for German language teachers adapting content around mental health and communication. Another special workshop featured Zines made by students about ‘Life in Lockdown’. The hands on activities have been greatly popular with students and teachers alike.

The screenings were hosted in a hybrid format in cooperation with our local partners: National Council of Science Museums, Rotary Club of Madras East, Environmentalist foundation of India, Ramakrishna Mission, Ektara Foundation, Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy, Inheritage Project.  Numerous local schools, universities and institutions of PASCH and BKD network also hosted festival screenings. With the immense support of our partners, the festival recorded a total of 36 062 participants in 2021.
