ARCH+ features 58: Võ Trọng Nghĩa

Vo Trong Nghia Architects: House for Trees, Ho-Chi-Minh-Stadt, 2014 The pioneering development of architecture in Vietnam

ARCH + has published two Vietnam-themed editions. On this occasion ARCH + in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut invites the architect Võ Trọng Nghĩa for a presentation to Berlin.

In the two Vietnam-themed editions, ARCH+ examines two globally relevant trends: ARCH+ 226 Vietnam – The Quiet Avantgarde pays attention to a current incisive turn-about. Not only in Vietnam, but around the world we are witnessing a new social commitment in architecture, which is the starting point of a new foundation of the discipline.

ARCH+ 227 Vietnam – The Return of Climate in turn puts forward an architectural paradigm shift in dealing with the challenges of the climate. Instead of managing climatic problems by conventional, technical means, the young Vietnamese architectural generation solves them creatively using architectural means. In addition to social building, climate-oriented design thus opens the way for architecture to a new social relevance.

Võ Trọng Nghĩa, who studied in Japan, became internationally renowned through his House for Trees concept.

Following the lecture, he will talk with Anh-Linh Ngo, ARCH+ co-editor and editor-in-chief, and architect Almut Grüntuch-Ernst, who researches “hortitecture” at the Institute for Design and Architectural Strategies at the TU Braunschweig, about the important of integrating vegetation in architecture.

The event is held in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut.
