Dear Friends of the Transatlantic Soccer Bridge,

All of you are winners before the Soccer Bridge tournament has even started. Tackling a foreign language and trying to master it is already a major victory. When I learned English, French and Italian during my playing days in Europe’s top soccer leagues I was in a very fortunate position: I knew that I had to be able to communicate with my teammates to be successful.

But you are in a very fortunate position as well since studying German enables you to participate in a really fun tournament, the Transatlantic Soccer Bridge.

I’m proud to be the spokesperson for the Soccer Bridge because the tournament is truly unique in its combination of soccer, foreign language learning and intercultural exchange. Maybe after participating in the competition and working on your German you will travel to Germany to experience “soccer fever” live. There are not many countries that take soccer as seriously as Germany and watching a game in one of the Bundesliga stadiums can be quite an experience!

I had the honor to coach the German national team during the 2006 World Cup. And I was completely thrilled to see the team play a great tournament and come in third. But I was just as impressed with the warmth and hospitality that could be felt all over the country during these four weeks of soccer madness. Germany is a country worth visiting and learning German is the first step towards enjoying all the things that Germany has to offer.

Have fun in the Transatlantic Soccer Bridge tournament, keep up your studies and get a kick out of German!

Alles Gute und viel Erfolg wünscht euch euer
