Ali Mitgutsch

Ali Mitgutsch was born in Munich in 1935 and spent his childhood in a small village in the Allgäu region. He trained as a lithographer before studying at the Graphic Arts Academy in Munich. For 17 years he spent several months of each year on journeys that took him to many different countries all over the world.
Ali Mitgutsch published his first children's book, "Pepes Hut", in 1959. He became well-known primarily through his "Wimmelbücher", books which combine many everyday scenes to form a large picture. Ali Mitgutsch has received many awards for his works, which are popular all over the world and have been translated into 19 languages. He has published more thn 30 children's books and 40 school textbooks.
Ali Mitgutsch now divides his time between his homes in a small Lower Bavarian village and Munich.
