1. Purpose of the Grant
The Goethe-Institut Australia Travel Grant is intended to support participants travelling to attend the National Conference for Teachers of German in Sydney. The grant is provided as a fixed contribution towards participation costs and is not tied to the submission of individual receipts.
2. Eligibility
Applicants must:
- be currently teaching German at a primary or secondary school in Australia (Please note: Teachers working exclusively in community language schools, weekend schools, or private tutoring contexts are not eligible to apply.)
- have completed conference registration
- submit a completed travel grant application;
- agree to contribute a poster presentation to the conference poster exhibition; and
- comply with all conference and scholarship requirements.
3. Conference Poster Contribution
As a condition of receiving funding, applicants agree to submit a conference poster.
Poster presentations are intended to showcase practical projects, teaching ideas, experiences, and initiatives from German language education. The conference is seeking examples of effective practice that may inspire and support other teachers.

4. Grant Amount
The travel grant is based on the applicant’s state or territory of residence:

5. Allocation of Funding
- Grants are awarded on a first come, first served basis.
- Submission of an application does not guarantee funding.
- Grants are subject to the availability of funds.
The Goethe-Institut Australia reserves the right to decline applications once available funding has been exhausted.
6. Grant Approval and Payment
The Goethe-Institut Australia may confirm the award of a travel grant before conference registration fees have been paid. Such confirmation constitutes a provisional grant offer and does not automatically result in payment.
Payment of the travel grant will only be made once:
- the applicant has completed conference registration;
- the conference registration fee has been paid in full;
- the applicant remains registered to attend the conference; and
- all required information, including banking details, has been provided.
The Goethe-Institut Australia reserves the right to withdraw a provisional grant offer if these conditions are not met.
7. Use of Funds
The travel grant is intended as a contribution towards expenses associated with conference participation, including but not limited to travel, accommodation, or other attendance-related costs.
8. Cancellation, Non-Attendance and Repayment
Recipients must notify the Goethe-Institut Australia as soon as possible if:
- they are no longer able to attend the conference;
- they withdraw their conference registration; or
- circumstances arise that affect their eligibility for the grant.
The Goethe-Institut Australia reserves the right to require full or partial repayment of the grant if:
- the recipient cancels their attendance after receiving the grant;
- the recipient does not attend the conference;
- false, inaccurate, or misleading information was provided in the application; or
- the grant was awarded based on information that is later found to be incorrect.
9. Changes to the Event
Should the conference be postponed, cancelled, moved online, or substantially altered, the Goethe-Institut Australia reserves the right to review, amend, withdraw, or cancel grant payments.
10. Liability
The Goethe-Institut Australia accepts no responsibility for travel disruptions, flight cancellations, accommodation issues, illness, force majeure events, or any other circumstances that prevent attendance at the conference.
11. Post-Conference Feedback
As this scholarship supports professional learning, recipients may be asked to provide a brief post-conference reflection, evaluation, or feedback report outlining the benefits of their participation and how the learning may be applied in their teaching practice or school context.
12. Privacy
Personal information collected as part of the application process will be used solely for the administration of the grant and will be handled in accordance with applicable privacy legislation and Goethe-Institut data protection policies.
