The Glory of Life (2024) is a German-Austrian co-production and is based on the bestseller of the same name by Michael Kumpfmüller. The film, directed by Georg Maas and Judith Kaufmann, tells the touching story of the great love between Franz Kafka and Dora Diamant. With Henriette Confurius and Sabin Tambrea in the leading roles. Love against all odds - that's how you could summarise the premise of DIE HERRLICHKEIT DES LEBENS.
Synopsis
1923: Dora Diamant and Franz Kafka meet by chance on the Baltic Sea beach. He is a man of the world, she is from the deep East, he can write, she can dance. She has both feet firmly on the ground, he is always hovering a little above it. She embraces the indicative, he gets tangled up in the subjunctive. But when the two get to know each other, all differences become irrelevant. They are granted a single year until Franz Kafka dies far too early. Even though Kafka's health deteriorates more and more, their year together allows them to experience THE GLORY OF LIFE.
The splendour of life. Directed by Georg Maas and Judith Kaufmann. Austria, Germany, 2024, 98 min.
