Between the Congo and the Elbe
‘Between the Congo and the Elbe – A Dialogue Between Rivers’ is an artist residency programme born out of the twinning of the cities of Dresden (Germany) and Brazzaville (Republic of Congo).
Its aim is to create a space for encounter and exchange between the artistic scenes of the two cities, promoting mutual discovery, the circulation of ideas and networking among artists.
Jointly supported by the municipalities of Dresden and Brazzaville, in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut, the Institut français, Zentralwerk Dresden e.V. and the Ateliers Sahm in Brazzaville, the programme offers one artist from Brazzaville a travel and residency grant in Dresden each year. Similarly, an artist from Dresden also receives a grant and a residency in Brazzaville.
A symbol of culture and history, Dresden is known for its museums, classical architecture and the River Elbe. Brazzaville, crossed by the River Congo, is a lively centre of contemporary creation. Bringing these two rivers into dialogue means creating a resonance between two territories and two artistic traditions, in a spirit of openness and co-creation.
