A concert with Thomas Stimmel and Liese Klahn
 
On the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of Yared School of Music the Goethe-Institut Addis Abeba will present a classical concert on Thursday, 20th of October at 6pm in the concert hall of Yared School of Music with the bassist Thomas Stimmel and the pianist Liese Klahn. Compositions by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, the song cycle „Nightsongs, 6 Songs on texts by Afro-American poets“ by H. Leslie Adams and the song cycle op. 39 by Robert Schumann with lyrics by Joseph von Eichendorff will be featured.
 
The bassist Thomas Stimmel completed his vocal studies with Prof. Marilyn Schmiege in Munich in 2011 and his master studies with Prof. Thomas Quasthoff in Berlin in 2013. Among other things he sang at the Berliner Staatsoper Unter den Linden, the Münchener Prinzregententheater, the Cairo Opera and the Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse. His concert repertoire contains the big oratorios from Baroque, classicism and romanticism. Important is also the cooperation with the conductor and composer George Alexander Albrecht. Since 2015 he is a lecturer at the Music Academy in Munich.
 
The pianist Liese Klahn passed her solistic education with Eliza Hansen and Karl-Heinz Kämmerling. She also took part in a Beethoven masterclass with Wilhelm Kempff in Positano. In 1988 she was cofounder of the “ensemble incanto”, with which she gave concerts on international festivals. They also went on tours through the USA, South America and the Middle East and have a large discography. Furthermore she is, among others, chamber music partner of Sabine Meyer and the Vienna string sextet and she gave concerts on the Beethovenfest Bonn, the Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele, the Carinthischer Sommer Festival and the Schleswig-Holstein music festival. Since 2002 she is the artistic director of “Melos Logos”, a festival for music and literature in Weimar.
