Dance X Game: Avatar and Alternative Subjectivities

How to bring the immersive experience that video games usually engenders into dance performance? How to utilize the complicated technical systems such as augmented realities, virtual realities, motion captures, real-time rendering, etc., together with our bodies? What does it mean for dancers and choreographers to engage the audience as a playful subject? What does it mean for the audience to become part of the narrative, the movement, the field and the system?

Zelia ZZ Tan is a cross-disciplinary dance artist focusing on presence and identity. She is a pioneer in dance x technology in Asia. Her recent work Accelerating Dimension with live mocap, avatars and audience interaction, was presented at the Phygital_D Festival in West Kowloon Cultural District. The experiments bring her and her cross-disciplinary team both inspiration and challenges. In this Game Kitchen, Zelia will share her mind-body experience in game x creative dance journey, and brainstorm with us how to further crossover the boundary between the two disciplines.
