From exhibition catalogues to artist ‘s books, from conceptual photo books to student theses to photo-theoretical and photo-technical essays. Photo book is a medium with unlimited possibilities.
Every year, publishers, editors, artists, authors and designers submit photographic images in book form, photo books as well as photographic texts from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and other German-speaking area to the competition of the German Photo Book Award. A jury of experts will award gold, silver and bronze medals in 12 categories that reflect the spectrum of photographic, creative, philosophical and printing possibilities alongside the ever-changing photography and photo book landscape. The award-winning books then go on an exhibition tour through Germany, Europe and Asia.
The prestigious Award has been presented for more than 25 years. Until 2016, it was organized by the German Publishers and Booksellers Association, and until 2021 by the Stuttgart Media University. Starting in 2022, it has been organized by the non-profit making association FESTIVAL FOTOGRAFISCHER BILDER e.V., based in Regensburg.
