Exhibition by Elisia Nghidishange

The Goethe-Institut Namibia in collaboration with local curator, Hildegard Titus present the second installment of authentically Namibian art exhibitions.

Born in Omukukutu, sculptor Elisia Nghidishange grew up in the shadow of a talented mother who embraced clay pottery in the role of a woman, which inspired her to pursue a qualification in art and become a professional sculptor.

Her clay sculptures and Papier-Mache creations combine traditional beads from northern Namibia to question the ethics behind the creation of wealth and women’s role in the sometimes unethical actions. Nghidishange wants wealthy Namibia to question its actions and culture of pursuing the ownership of material things while others have nothing.

The Goethe-Institut Namibia presents this exhibition under the German Weeks 2017 of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany and ‘Team Germany’ in Namibia.
