Important Update

Following the attacks on Lagos City Hall on October 21, 2020, the office of the Goethe-Institut has also been severly affected. Therefore, we will remain closed until further notice. 
However, we have set up a German Corner in the library of Alliance Française de Lagos. Library users can access German language books from 10am-3pm on Mondays and Thursdays.

Our Library Services

In the library you'll find an up-to-date selection of printed and audiovisual media - both in German and in English - to keep you informed about current issues and latest trends.

Our media collection includes:

  • Databases
  • CDs and Audio Books
  • Videos and DVDs
The library is open to the general public. Reference use of the library and information centre is free of charge. To borrow books and other materials, you need a valid library card.

To obtain a library card, simply fill out a membership application form (available at the information desk in the library) and return it with the following documents:
  • Valid identification (International passport, Personal ID card, student or school ID card
  • 1 passport picture
  • personal e-mail address
Library cards are available for the following fees:
Adults and students: 2.000 Naira per year
Students of Goethe-Institut: Free

Loan periods:
Books and audiobooks: 4 weeks
DVDs: 2 weeks
Magazines: 4 weeks

The loan period may be extended, provided that other library users have not reserved the materials.

New Media in the Library:
Currently, four laptops are availabe in the library to access the internet and research information on topics related to Germany, as well as to use CD-ROM databases. In addition, the laptops can be used by German language students at different levels to access digtial language learning programs that are designed to improve grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing skills, as well as to prepare for examinations like Zertifikat Deutsch (ZD) at the Goethe-Institut.  

Library members may use the internet facilities free of charge.
