WHERE IS DADIYATA?

 Wearable Art & Advocacy Collaboration

Where Is Daddiyatta? is an artistic intervention developed under the Art and Country initiative of the GoetheInstitut Nigeria. The project revisits the disappearance of Dadiyata—journalist, critic, and political voice— examining disappearance as a condition shaped by repressive governance, silencing, and political erasure.

Through visual art, performance, writing, and fashion, the project seeks to activate public memory and civic questioning in contemporary Nigeria.

THE OPEN CALL

The Goethe-Institut Nigeria under its Art&Country initiative invites fashion designers, clothing lines, and apparel brands to apply for a collaborative project to co-produce a limited series of wearable pieces bearing the inscription:

WHERE IS DADIYATA?

The wearables are conceived as moving sites of memory and advocacy, extending the project’s artistic inquiry into everyday public space.

CREATIVE FRAME

Selected clothing line(s) will collaborate within a flexible creative framework. Designs may include:

  • typographic or text-based expressions
  • visual elements developed by participating visual artists
  • brand-led interpretations aligned with the project’s intent Integration of artist and writer outputs is optional, allowing brands to work in ways consistent with their design language and production capacity.

SOCIAL IMPACT & PROFIT SHARING

Proceeds from the sale of the wearables will be shared between:

  • the selected clothing line(s),
  • the family of Dadiyata and
  • The Art & Country Initiative

The primary social objective is to contribute to the educational scholarship of Dadiyata’s daughter, ensuring that the collaboration produces direct and meaningful impact.

WHO CAN APPLY

  • Independent fashion designers
  • Established clothing lines
  • Streetwear and ready-to-wear brands
  • Fashion collectives and experimental labels
Applicants must demonstrate: 
  • a clear design identity
  • interest in socially engaged or culturally reflective work
  • capacity to produce and distribute wearable items

WHAT TO SUBMIT

Interested applicants should submit:
1. A short statement of interest (max. 500 words)
2. Brand profile or lookbook (PDF or link)
3. Brief proposal on how you might approach the collaboration
4. Links to website or social media (if available)

SELECTION & NEXT STEPS

Selected brand(s) will be contacted for further discussion on:

  • design development
  • production scale
  • evenue-sharing structure
  • timelines and launch strategy
